The start of the front cover

I chosen blue as the colour background for my background and on Photoshop used the magic wound to start to erase any of the picture that i do not need.
I initially wanted to use this image as my main cover however, after i thought about it i decided that it is not suitable for a main cover and should be used in my contents page.

Magazine Mood Board

Research for music magazine industry

Research In the magazine industry from 2008 to 2009 there was a rise in demand for magazine; it went from -1.1% to -2.2% and from 2009 to 2010 the demand for magazines fell by -0.7% to -1.5%. In 2011 it decreased to -1.0% and some reasons for this may be that technology increased for example smartphones, tablets therefore it would be easier for people to access magazines on the internet. This shows that the magazine industry is not as successful as it used to be as magazine sales are decreasing as the years go by. Problems that the magazine industry can face whilst creating a music magazine would be that the majority of the information is online and easily assessable than buying a magazine to get the latest songs. On iTunes music is promoted through pop ups, advertisements therefore people can get the information without having to buy a magazine. The subgenre i would pick whilst making a music magazine will be R’n’b/Hip hop as i listen to this type of music on a daily bases and am very interested in it. I decided to create a magazine in this sub genre as this is the type of music i know a lot of people are interested in as well as myself and the history behind R’n’b is fascinating as this sub genre has expanded and changed over many years. This R’n’b magazine will fill the gap in the market even though there are many magazines out there for R’n’b music i feel that as my peer group is who the target audience is aimed at i know what they are expecting and what will make them want to buy this particular magazine. I think that the most suitable publishing house for my magazine would be BAUER as their website shows that they are a well-known company and know what they are doing when it comes to advertisement. They have worked with a variety of different brands therefore when it comes to reaching the target audience i feel that they know what they are talking about. The best way in promoting a music magazine would be to reach out to your target audience in as many ways as possible, through technology, spreading the news verbally, visual advertisements etc. The reason why i feel that my music magazine would be different to others is that the research beforehand that will be done to make sure i know exactly what consumers are looking for in the magazine and that is what will be put as they are the target audience and the people needed to make the magazine a success.

Representation

Representation Mediation •Is when something is taken in reality and changed in its form for example a person or an event and changed its for to produce whatever kind of text we end up with e.g. -When you are watching a comedy show we might end up watching a half an hour broadcast but it was been adjusted for a couple of hours. The jokes are repeated until its “just right” and the audience have been trained to laugh in a particular way. This whole comedy show will have been mediated. Three things to look for Selection – whatever ends up in the magazine has been decided for you depending on what the target audience is interested in for example, the articles, pictures etc. Organisation – In visual media the various elements that will be organised carefully involves the nise-en-scene and the organisation of narrative. Focusing – it’s decided for us what we should find interesting for example on the front cover of a magazine the “interesting” topics will be in bold or an interesting character will be zoomed into. Representation A representation is a description or depiction of something. It is also a symbol or something that stands for something else. The constructionist view Constructionists feel that a representation can never just be the truth or the version of the trust that someone wants you to hear since you are ignoring the ability as an individual to make up your own mind. Any representation is a mixture of: • The thing itself • The opinions of the people doing the representation • The reaction of the individual to the representation • The context of the society in which the representation is taking place Ideology An ideology is views about how things should ne and how people should behave and the ideology that is shared byy the majority of the people in a culture is called the dominant ideology.
