Design of front cover

Here are two layouts on what I wanted my front cover to look like. I did not put the main cell line in the middle of the image or on the top of her, when creating my front cover it looked much better at the bottom of the front cover.

Lesson 12 on the double pagw spread

This is the finished piece of my double page spread, I put in a quote of what I think a music artist would say to inspire other people wanting to take their path. I also put in another picture of the artist with a border around it to fill in the space at the bottom of the article and it also shows the importance of her character so people recognise who she is.

Lesson 11 on the double page spread

I added in a couple banners going vertically down the middle of the double page spread article to divide the picture from the article. so the image appeals to the audience as it is seperate from the article. I have also written up my article about the jounrye of her music life.

Lesson 10 on the double page spread

I specifically chose my model to wear a hoodie with the new headphones that has come out in the recent years.as i thought it would appeal to my target audience as they would wear hoodie's on a daily basis and the majority of teenagers have these headphones. I thought i'd also break the convention of direct mode of address and have my model looking down as on the front coverr and contents page there are pictures of her so i thought i'd bring moreattention on her passion for music and show this in the picture. I used to magic eraser tool to erase the background of the image and then just the eraser tool to go around her and take off the uneccessary edges and rhen decreased the sharpness of the tool and went around her so it would smooth out the edges.

Lesson 9 on the double page spread

I have started on my double page spread by putting in the title of the of he article and added a banner for the the most important bits that I want to stand out. I have put in a music sign so that it brings emphasis on the fact that it is a music magazine and the article is about a music artist.

Lesson 8 on the contents page

 

My image did not fit the contents page well therefore, I looked at different variables for contrast and brightness untill I thought that the contrast of the image brought her personality through and how well it linked to the other images.
When i finished my contents page I had realised that it did not have different shots of images therefore I researched contents pages and found that they had put images close together on their contents page.I then thought to break the convention and make a banner consisting of a variety of different angle's and shots. I used a close up, long shot and a high angle shot and then put the images together and placed it on the top of the page.

Lesson 7 on contents page

Today I have edited the image, I have errased the background with the magic eraser tool on photoshop and then carefully went around the image of the model to take away any uneccessary background. I then smoothed the edges of the model so that the edges were not sharp.

Lesson 6 on the contents page

In this lesson I have added the cell lines that are going to feature in the magazine. I haveplaced a black banner on the title of each section so that the reader can tell the different sections in the magazine.
I have also taken away the faded background as I would rather have a while background throughout my whole magazine to keep it consistant.

Double page spread example

  I really like this double page spread because of the way the images are layed out, there is one main image of the model and black and white images of her doing different poses in thebackground. Youcan see that she is the main focal point of the article as she is the center of the article and the colours in the colours automatically targets the audience.
From what the model is wearing allows advertising to be easier because outfits are clearly seen by the audience.

I really like the layout of this double page spread as the colours represent the type of character the model is. Nicki Minaj acts like a barbie character therefore the colour pink links to her character a lot. The image and her name is both big and bold which also represent her personality.
The different fonts and sizes is really appealing as it makes the double page spread look edgy rather than having it just one font sizr and one font type.

Lesson 5 on the contents page

In The first lesson of creating my contents page I have added a background, i chose it to be a fade from black to white. I have also added the title. I chose the same font as the one I used on the front cover of my magazine. This is so that people will recognise this type of font when it is on magazine that it is a Hip Hop magazine called 'Hype'.

I really like the layout of this contents page. The image takes up majority of the page as the topic on him is first on the list of stories. This show the importance of the character therefore this contents page has inspired me to do mine similar to it as the model in my magazine is an importanr character in the magazine. The title of the contents page looks really interesting as it is not a typical style of a music magazine contents page and looks ver effective.
It is also very appealing that the writing is in small in comparison to the picture as when readers usually look through magazine it is the pictures that appeal to them most.
The creater of the magazine has thought about continuously putting the same style of title on othe contents pages as when the audience see's it they will automatically know what magazine they are reading.

Lesson 4 on the front cover

For a cpule of lessons I spent erasing the background of the image. I used the magic eraser tool to take off the majority of the background as it takes off large amounts of it then i used the eraser tool to go around my model and also smooth out the hard edges of the image.
I thought that if the model was wearing a hat saying 'hype' it could advertise the magazine and if people start to like the magazine and the new artist then they would buy the hat and promote the magazine without noticing it.

Lesson 3 on the front cover

I have decided to put a black circle banner behind the sell line that says 'A-Z on the history of Hip Hop'. This is because a lot of magazines have one of their main sell lines in a circle banner as it shows that it is not the important topic but something that the target audience would want to read about as when evaluating the questionnaire i found that people would like to have some information on the history of Hip Hop.
I have also moved the main sell line to the bottom of the page and it would look better with the image.

Lesson 2 on the front cover

In my double lesson today I have added the different sell lines on the front cover of my magazine. I have put the main sell line in white with a black banner so that it stands out from the others and i have put the other sell lines in different font, sizes and colours to show the importance of the different topics as putting 'Buy your cheap online tickets now' in big will attract the audience the buy the magazine more as young people would love to see their favorite artist for cheap as they do not get that much disposable income.

Lesson 1 on front cover

In the first lesson on creating the front cover of my magazine i have imported a masthead with the banner. The font was taken from 'Dafont' and i erased all the white background which came with the writing. I used the magic eraser tool to simply take it off so that i can place an orange banner behind it as my colour scheme is black, orange and white. I have placed the barcode quite small below the banner as it is not important burt will not be able to place it at the bottom of the magazine as my sell lines will be there. I have put the price at the top of the magazine as when the magazine is placed on the shelf the left third is what you are able to see therefore the price is placed there as it is a reasonable price for the target audience and should be something that stands out to them.

Analysis of the photo's I took

These are examples of some of the picture I took to use for my front cover. I prefered using a mid-shot image specifically for the front cover so that you can see clearly her clothing as one of the main aims of this magazine was to break the stereotype of women being sexualised on the front cover of Hip Hop magazines.I think the first image is more appropriate to use as the lighting for the picture is perfect and she is dressed like a typical Hip Hop fan with the 'Hype' hat and a shirt. This is what the young adults wear in today's society therefore presenting that on the front cover of the magazine will attract Hip Hop fans more.The hat that the model is wearing is to advertise the magazine, if the model is wearing clothing like that then the audience would want to copy the model.

Front cover analysis

I like the layout of this front cover, how the image is in the center of the page, the sell lines are evenly spread around him and the main story is in big bold writing.. Even though the main image is covering some of the masthead is shows that readers still know the name of the magazine as it is a known magazine. The colour scheme represents Hip Hop as it uses bold bright colours and represents Hip Hop.

I have added what the sections of the magazine will be about, i put them as different fonts and sizes so that it is more interesting and appealing to read. I will add colour to some of the sections to make it look less boring. 

Contents page

So far for my contents page i have chosen a main image that i placed on the top of the contents page. It is with the old school on the left and the new school on the right. This is because the main story of the magazine is to to with the new school building therefore i wanted to show the difference in how the schools look like. I put together three picture i took of the classrooms and made it as one long picture. This also shows the difference between how the old school and new school looks like.

I have added on two cell lines onto my magazine and i am still continueing to add them on. I have also added the font i want to use for my title however, i still have not thought of a name therefore i i do i will add it in.

As you can see from the table above the majority of the student feel that the colour blue and green would suit a school magazine best as the colours are not too out there and not so dull. A mixture of pictures, short and long text would be best as some people like reading longer text than others however, long paragraphs will be limited as the majority prefer short text. Students would rather have the front cover of the magazine to be students in the school as it would make the students feel more involved in the magazine as they would be seeing familiar faces however, the front magazine would change when it is published to give a change to it and not see the same thing over and over again. They prefer it to be published every term as only one person said they would spare time to read it however if it is published every term they will not get bored of it and could probably read it going home from school one day.
